Magpies fallout begins as star requests early trade

The fallout from Collingwood’s disastrous 2024 AFL season has begun with one player requesting a trade.
The Magpies on Tuesday announced small defender John Noble has asked to be traded to an interstate club.
The Age reports Noble, 27, wants to head to Gold Coast and play under Damien Hardwick at the Suns.

A trade could land Collingwood a high draft pick given the Suns currently have picks six, 13, 20, 26 and 34.

“John today informed us he would like to explore a trade ahead of next season to be closer to family,” list manager Justin Leppitsch said in a club statement.
“Whilst John is contracted, we understand the importance of family and will take this into consideration as we work through the trade period.”
Noble was taken by Collingwood with pick No.14 of the 2019 mid-season draft.

He is contracted with the Magpies until the end of 2026 but may depart during the October trade period if a deal can be done.
He was a devastating hard luck story of last season when he was brutally axed from the team on the eve of the finals and missed the premiership run.
The Magpies slipped badly this year, going from premiers to a finish outside the top eight.
The 2024 trade period starts on October 7.
