Information on the Instruction paper:
" Richard's Famous Lock Stitch Sewing Awl. To locate needles and small wrench, unscrew the top of awl handle. Take loose end of thread and pull approx. 5 inches away from reel. Remove nut used to hold needle with wrench provided. Then run thread over top of box-like frame around spool and along the groove in the shank. Insert needle with long grooved side to meet at point where groove in shank ends. Then put thread through hole in nut and tighten nut keeping all grooves lined up straight. After needle is secured in place, thread should be inserted through eye of needle."
HOW TO STITCH: "Thread should be inserted into needle about 1 /2 ". With forefinger firmly on reel, insert needle through material (A). Pull the short thread end out about 18 " longer than the seam you want to sew by double the length. Hold loose end of the thread in one hand (B). Hold awl firmly with the other hand (B) Allow 1 1/2 " of thread between material and point of needle. Using the same position, start the second stitch. "
