    Postcard view of an obelisk Civil War monument in Petersburg, Virginia, by R.R. Totty of Petersburg, Va., circa 1900s. The view, entitled Hartranft Monument, Erected by the State of Pennsylvania, at a cost of ,000 on the site of Fort Mahone, near Petersburg, Va., and the scene of the Battle of the Crater (July 30, 1864.), Unveiled May 19, 1909, shows a tall obelisk monument with statues at the base rising up above an open field. The monument was named in honor of Major General John F. Hartranft of Pennsylvania and located on the site of the Confederate fort blown up in the Battle of the Crater. The postcard is in only good condition with light wear and soiling and a minor corner crease at bottom right. Nice Civil War related Petersburg VA postcard!
