    Large sterling silver three handled trophy cup presented by J.P. Allen & Co at the Atlanta Horse Show in 1908 to John King Ottley Sr. and his show horse, Mary Ellen. Trophy is not dated however, t
    he details of the show and Mary Ellen's win can be read about in Bit and Spur Volume 6 Page 26. Trophy was later gifted by Ottley's grandson (John K. Ottley III) on the occasion of his own grandson's (John K Ottley V) christening (April 24th 1932) as detailed on the third side of the trophy.
    Exterior fin
    ely engraved on three sides.  Underside of circular foot marked with "STERLING", "20" as well mark for maker, William Nost & Co. Overall approximate height 10.75", diameter (at top) 5.75" (not including handles), diameter (of foot) 4.75". Total weight approximately 1 pound 2 ounces. Note: Mr. John King Ottley Sr. was a founding member of the Capital City Club as well as the Piedmont Driving Club. He served as President of the First National Bank in Atlanta, Georgia and was extremely well-regarded in the city. His love for dogs and horses led him to built a summer or country home, Joyeuse in Buckhead, Atlanta situated on what is now Lenox Square Mall. In 1933, Mr. Ottley was kidnapped and held for ransom (the first occurrence of this kind of crime in Atlanta) on the banks of the Chattahoochee River. During the kidnapping, Ottley persuaded one of the kidnappers to release him and walked away from the situation.
