Danish Center Piece Silver Basket Chased with Gold Wash Hallmarked Carl Peter Foght 1832
Presented is a beautiful Danish hand hammered chased silver basket with a gadroon motif on a pedestal base and a gold wash interior. This basket is hallmarked for Carl Peter Foght with a date mark for silver made in 1832. I have shown my research in the photos above. It has It has a beautiful chased floral and leaf motif on the handle and pedestal base and a gadroon motif radiating out from the center of the basket giving the gold washed interior a striking contrast. Hallmarked for Denmark solid 826 fine silve; American standard sterling is 925 fine, so there is slightly less silver in this alloy.
It is a beautiful piece with no dents or dings and only some minor scratches from gentle use. It has a great period engraved inscription on the handle and while it not tight on its hinges and does not stand upright to the basket this item is a fine addition to almost any collection of fine silver for its art and craftsmanship and makes a great centerpiece.
