    Description

Presented is a wonderful Dominick & Haff sterling silver openwork planter or vase, with removable interior liner. This piece dates to 1901. The planter is done in an elegant openwork design, depicting winged cherubs holding lions' heads, amidst scrolled foliage. The liner is brass, and we have painted the outside a rich red to better show the detail of the openwork. The liner could easily be re-painted a different color, or the paint could be stripped. The planter has a presentation inscription reading: "General Charles G. Loring on his resignation as Director of the Museum of Fine Arts. An expression of regard from those who served under him. 1902." General Charles G. Loring was director of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.
This piece is in great condition. There are no splits, no breaks, no dents, no monogram removals, and no repairs.
The underside of the piece is stamped 'sterling' and with the maker's mark for Dominick & Haff, dated 1901.
The planter stands about 7 3/4 inches tall and measures about 9 1/2 inches in diameter.
The total weight for the piece, including the liner, is 1371 grams. The weight of just the sterling silver is 1021 grams or 36.1 regular ounces.
