Description
Due to a recent family expansion (twins!) we have outgrown our Jetta Sportwagen TDI.COVERED BY FACTORY VW WARRANTY TILL 2025!!
120K TIMING BELT SERVICE COMPLETED!!
3 KEYS!!
We are major TDI lovers, we have owned 3 and been driving them since 2010. VW bought back our other white sportwagen and our black Golf Autobahn edition, this black Sportwagen was our replacement for those two, we purchased this black wagon in 02/2017.
Our Jetta has been meticulously cared for; only serviced and upgraded by professionals at a specialty euro shop, I have receipts for every service and all upgrades which are detailed below.
We are in no rush to sell and understand an upgraded car is not for everyone; please read the ad thoroughly, test drives are welcome, I am currently storing the Jetta at South Lake Tahoe and can show it in the vicinity.
I work in mechanical engineering, so lots of car details are listed below.
The car has no airbag / ABS / check engine etc. error lights on. The car is registered in California and has both of its' California plates, was smogged march / april 2021 and is currently registered to ~04/2022, it carries a rebuilt title brand from an accident, this is detailed further below.
I have never installed a front plate on the car/GTI bumper, it has a clear bra strip across the front, no license plate holes. The hood and headlights also have clear bra protection film. The body isn't perfect, it has scratches on the back bumper and a few dings and scratches around the car, the hood has two quarter sized dents near the windshield from a 14.5ft kayak that I failed to smoothly unload from my roof bars (kayak mount and roof bars available separately).
To be clear- while it looks beautiful, this is not a show car, it was our super utilitarian sportwagen.
We occasionally had our
hound dog
in the car, it doesn't smell like dog (just has regular VW Jetta smell), non smokers, no fast food eating or smoking in the car either (we don't smoke or eat fast food). When the dog was in the car we had the back seats folded down and all weather rubber trunk liner tray and seat covers covering everything- there are surely a dozen or so hairs stuck in the carpet throughout the car that have resisted multiple attempts at vacuuming so if you are deathly allergic- you have been warned.
We purchased new keys / fobs from the dealer and while it is there we had them custom programmed to roll the windows up and down with the remotes! (0)
Immediately after my purchase at 73k miles, the HPFP (high pressure fuel pump) was replaced, along with the timing belt, fuel filter, oil & filter, air filter, water pump, coolant, radiator, intercooler, and A/C Condenser for preventive maintenance / accident repair (k+).
I am accustomed to Xenon lighting and had Golf autobahn factory headlights professionally retrofitted in, along with fog light wiring for the gti bumper (k in labor, I supplied the parts), and a VW reverse backup camera kit and European market stereo head unit installed.
I obtained a rare euro option Tamo Root real wood interior trim set and shift knob (0) and installed it in place of the cheap stock plastic trims. I also bought an OEM brushed aluminum Golf GTI brake / dead pedal / gas pedal set with acceleration position sensor (0).
The factory Golf R front brake system was retrofit more recently, upgraded with lightweight two piece discs (ECS) which provide better MPG and stopping performance, and Brembo ceramic performance brake pads that perform amazing in all temps and don't leave black dust on the wheels.
The stock brakes on the sportwagens are terrible, the Golf R brakes with upgraded discs have transformed the car, it stops like a Porsche now and I have felt much safer with my family in the car since the upgrade.
I could not stand that with the factory suspension sat so low that the stock bumper on these cars could easily hit curbs in parking lots if you weren't watching like a hawk every time you parked. Also, the car sat too low for our snow driving requirements of trips up to Lake Tahoe in the winter- so I had it lifted for 4" more ground clearance.
The lift was achieved using almost all factory parts from other models that share a similar chassis (Tiguan / Passat / TT) and some lift springs from H&R, it also has a skid plate from ECS tuning to protect the engine.
I used it very successfully on backcountry fire roads to access mountain biking trails and go fishing, it has better clearance than a golf Alltrack! It runs passat chassis 18" wheels and also the passat tire sizes (for an additional inch of lift). The spare wheel and tire was replaced with a BBS 17" wheel / Continental tire that clears the new large diameter Golf R Front BBK.
Listed below is the maintenance history, upgrade work, and when/what was performed, I have my oil changed at 5k intervals instead of the factory recommended 7,500-10,000 mile intervals. The engine has never been modified or chipped, I only did upgrades on the car for safety, cosmetic, and utility, not for more power / go faster (
its a tdi
lol- I'm here for the
45 MPG
!)
We have invested over k in upgrades and preventive maintenance during our ownership, we planned on never selling the car but some surprise twin babies pushed us into two larger vehicles.
The rh reverse bulb does not work
;
every other feature of the car works without issue
(air conditioning, heater, heated seats, bluetooth, windows, stereo, backup camera, door locks, headlights, turn signals, brake lights, windshield wipers, power steering, abs brakes, etc.)
For reference; the Jetta Sportwagen was not offered in North America with the options- xenon headlights, backup camera (became option after 2012 AFAIK), fog lights, or 345x30mm front brakes.

even
more details
regarding the vehicle history, and performance upgrades and modifications:
The hood has been custom modified for a front debadged grill. An original piece from a damaged hood was sectioned and grafted seamlessly into a new hood, and welded into place (not a glued piece of plastic how some people delete the notch).
The factory Golf GTI Autobahn AFS DRL auto focus xenon headlights required expert rewiring of the car and body control module to Golf factory specs, fog light wiring has also been factory retrofit, auto focus headlight AFS level sensor and wiring retrofit was also required for the conversion.
The stock Jetta seats had lost their luster, while they looked like new, the bottom cushions did not cushion well anymore. I purchased some much nicer low miles (40k) used front seats out of a Passat CC that matched the existing Jetta upholstery thinking that they would simply bolt in, but I was wrong.
The Passat seats went to the shop had to be rewired to work in the Jetta, and the passenger Jetta seat airbag sensor bladder and control module was carried over to the Passat seat to work correctly without airbag system errors. The seats now work plug n play like they were factory installed, and look and feel amazing!
This black sportwagen (like the two that preceded it), was purchased at an insurance auction with minor front end damage and was repaired at a body shop. I have photos of the car when it was purchased to show the damage, the car ran and drove fine, radiator and a/c were replaced because they were bent, not leaking, the driver airbag is the only one that deployed and it was replaced with a 2 year old airbag bought from VW that came from my other car before it was traded in for dieselgate.
This wagon's accident was completely repaired in just 1 day; I had the shop swap the clean front end from my black dieselgate golf TDI Autobahn onto the jetta. My existing GTI bumper, shaved hood, radiator support, and xenon AFS headlights were all swapped from my other car before it was delivered back to VW for dieselgate.
In addition to the swapped body parts a new radiator, A/C condenser, and OEM BEHR intercooler were also installed to complete the repair and retrofit.
This Jetta is running lightweight aluminum knuckles from a Passat. It is running .5" wider track Audi TT control arms that have adjustable TT ball joints. They are affixed to the car with a solid Polyurethane WALK eccentric caster bushing kit (to increase positive caster lost from the lift).
The front springs are from a Tiguan AWD, the rear springs are from a H&R lift kit made for Tiguan, the front H&R springs were too stiff for the Jetta chassis and had too much rebound so it took swapping them out for OEM Tiguan front springs to make it all feel perfect. It was expensive, but totally worth it, the car handles better than stock, rides like a factory sport suspension, and you get +4" of ground clearance.
To bring the rear track out to match the front width offset, 15mm rear hubcentric spacers were added.
VW performed the dieselgate emissions recall in February, a new catalyst, and DPF diesel particulate filter were installed, along with a software update. I declined for years for this recall to be performed, fearing poor driveability and huge MPG losses. I was surprised when the car actually ran BETTER after the recall work, the mileage dropped by about 10% or 4-5mpg and it still can average 40-45mpg on the highway depending on if you are going 60mph vs 75mph. I no longer see the 50mpg peak MPG from pre-recall.
This Jetta due to the recall repair. has a 4 year 48k mile nationwide engine warranty from VW.
ANY ENGINE PROBLEM TAKE TO DEALER VW PAYS TO FIX IT, ANYWHERE IN THE USA.
